Just as I was establishing my new company in London, I was asked if we could come aboard a crime series called Crossing Lines about a transnational unit investigating crimes across Europe. The show had been on for two promising seasons, but had never quite reached its potential. Could we finally hit it out of the park in its third season?

We accepted the challenge, but ultimately it proved a battle we could not win. Much of the show’s original cast didn’t return. We enlisted a strong new ensemble and wrote some pretty terrific episodes, but the audience just wasn’t there.

I was grateful for the experience to work with so many talented actors and writers, not least of whom was the legendary Donald Sutherland. Just meeting Donald would have made the whole thing worth it. But seeing his utter devotion to every scene – to every line and moment – was deeply inspiring. To work with Donald was to work with greatness.
